01 Overview

RegexLab does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal information. All regex processing happens entirely inside your browser.

This Privacy Policy describes how RegexLab ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you visit regexlab.io or any subdomain. By using the site, you agree to the practices described here.

If you have questions or concerns, please use the Contact page.

02 What We Collect

We collect nothing that can personally identify you. Here is a complete breakdown of every data type our infrastructure may see:

Data Type Collected? Stored? Shared?
Regex patterns you type Never Never Never
Test strings you paste Never Never Never
IP address (server logs) Transient 72 h max Never
Browser / OS (User-Agent) Transient 72 h max Never
Cookies None set Never Never
Local Storage / IndexedDB Not used Never Never
Contact form submissions Yes (if sent) Reply only Never

Transient server logs are standard web-server access logs (IP, timestamp, URL, status code, User-Agent). They exist only for security and abuse-prevention purposes and are automatically purged within 72 hours.

03 Cookies & Tracking

We set zero cookies — session, persistent, functional, or otherwise. We do not use:

  • Google Analytics, Fathom, Plausible, or any analytics platform
  • Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, or any ad-network tag
  • Hotjar, FullStory, or any session-recording tool
  • Fingerprinting scripts of any kind
  • A/B testing scripts that track individuals

The only external resource we load is Google Fonts (to serve the typefaces used on this site). Google's Privacy Policy governs that connection. If you prefer, you can block fonts.googleapis.com in your browser or via a privacy extension — the site will fall back gracefully to system monospace fonts.

04 How We Use Information

The only personal data we ever receive is what you voluntarily submit through the Contact form. We use that information solely to:

  • Respond to your message or bug report
  • Follow up if further information is needed
  • Improve RegexLab based on your feedback (anonymised)

We will never send you unsolicited emails, add you to a marketing list, or share your contact details with any third party.

05 Third-Party Services

RegexLab keeps its dependency footprint minimal. The table below lists every third-party service the site connects to:

Service Purpose Data Sent
Google Fonts Typography (Space Mono, Syne) IP, User-Agent (per Google's policy)

That's the complete list. We do not embed social-media widgets, YouTube iframes, Disqus comment threads, or any other third-party embed that could profile you.

06 Security

The most private data is data that was never collected. Because your regex patterns and test strings never leave your browser, there is nothing to breach on our end.

For data that does reach our servers (access logs and contact-form submissions), we apply standard protections: HTTPS in transit, encrypted storage at rest, access limited to the minimum necessary people, and automatic purge schedules.

07 Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights under GDPR (EU/EEA), UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA (California), or equivalent laws. Because we hold so little data about you, most of these rights have no practical effect — but they are still yours:

  • Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate information
  • Erasure — ask us to delete contact-form data we hold
  • Restriction — ask us to restrict processing while a complaint is resolved
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Object — object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests

To exercise any right, use the Contact page. We will respond within 30 days.

08 Children's Privacy

RegexLab is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us via the contact form, please let us know and we will delete it promptly.

09 Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted prominently. Continued use of RegexLab after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

We will never change this policy in a direction that makes it more invasive without giving you reasonable notice.

10 Contact & Data Controller

For any privacy questions, data-rights requests, or concerns, please use the Contact page. We take privacy correspondence seriously and will acknowledge your message within 72 hours.

RegexLab operates this site and acts as data controller for any personal data processed under this policy.
